The theft or ' £ll 10s in various amounts on dates between July 9 and August 16 from the pockets of clothing left in a dressing shed at St. Andrews golf Club was admitted by Bobs Alva Pittar, aged 18, in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court. Detective-Sergeant Thompson said that for some weeks past members of the golf club had missed money which they left in their clothes in the golhouse. On Sunday last a trap was set, and accused was seen extracting a marked 10s note from a coat owned by Mr W. J. King. Accused then confessed to several other thefts. Mr A. L. TompkinSj for the defence, .said accused had good parents and had received a good education. The magistrate, Mr Wyvern Wilson, said there were some unplesaant foatures, about the case. Accused had mixed with his father’s friends in order to secure admission to the gob house', and he had deliberately and with premeditation ■ stolen the money. Accused was admitted to probation for two years on strict conditions and was ordered to make restitution ( himself. A request for the suppression of the name was refused.
