RADIO PROGRAMME

The Auckland Piano Students’ Association will provide the whole of th(Studio concert from »IA this evening. ■Miss Doris Bransgrove, Miss Valerie Peacocke and Mr H. A. Barton will be the vocalists. There will be several piano duos and quartettes and of particular interest on the programme will be a number for two pianos played by three pianists. It is entitled “The Warriors,” by Percy Grainger. From 2YA at 7.40, Mr Johannes Anuerson, Librarian at Turnbull Library, will give a lecturette on “Maori Folk Lore.”
In the 2YA studio concert, which will be of a miscellaneous Mr R. J. Madigan (bass) will sing “Sword of Ferrara” and “Simon the Cellarer.” Mr Edwin Dennie (tenor) and Miss Ena :Rapley (soprano) will be heard in two duets, Monckton’s “Boy and Girl” and 'Wallace’s “Oh, Maritana.” Tenor and soprano solos will also be sung. Mrs Mildred Kenny’s Guitar Trio will play “One Alone,” “To a Miniature” and “Cherry Ripe” and "Sweet and Low..’ The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Trad a, will contribute to the programme and selected electrical recordings will also be included. The lecturer for the International Programme at 3YA this evening will he •Mr W. M. Hamilton, who will speak on “Mesopotamia To-day.” Mr Hamilton, who is a well known lawyer, visited Irak last year. Silent day at 4YA.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28th. ' Two new artists will appear on lYA’s : studio programme this evening. Mrs Hawea Rees, soprano, and Mr J. V. Burton, baritone. Two humorous sketches will be acted by Miss Linnie Nicholas and Mr Zante Wood, and the IYA Orchestra will be heard in several selections, amongst them being “Hungarian Lustspiel,” “Rotten Row, fT * and “The Water Melon Patch.” One of the new members of the Orchestra, Mr W. Bright, will play a cornet solo, “L’Adieu” by Schubert. 2YA will relay from the Wellington Town Hall the ninth concert of the ■Wellington Competitions Society’s 1931 Festival. Soprano, tenor and light baritone solos, humour in song and story, piano duets and orchestral numbers will comprise 3YA’s programme. The singers will be Mrs L. B. Salkeld, Mr Janus Shaw and Mr Leslie A. Stewart, all of whose songs will be sung to orchestrai accompaniment. Mr George Titchener will be the humorist. This evening’s entertainment at 4YA will mark the first appearance of a brilliant orchestral combination under the direction of Signora Martinelli-Reg-giardo, well known in Dunedin as a fine ' pianiste and first class conductress. Ihe individual members of the orchestra arc all well known artists, including Mr J. Stewart, a brilliant flautist. The programme to be presented will include popular musical comedy selections and overtures. Miss Mae Matheson (soprano) and Mr C. S. Hawes (baritone) will sing. Miss Eva Holland will include “Wodehouse Up-to-date” in her humorous recitations.
