RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26th. An address to be given by Professor M. Belshaw in the Auckland University College Hall before the Commerce 'Students’ Society, on “The Niemeyer Report'’ this evening, will be relayed by IYA. From 9 o’clock there will be a studio concert, the contributing artists including Miss M,yra Monk (soprano) and the Aubade Trio (appearing in violin solos, piano' solos, and contralto solos with violin obligati). The second instalment of tjie new series of International Programmes wifi be presented at 2YA. Dr Guy H, ISchohfield will be the lecturer.
From the Radiant Hall, 3YA will this evening, relay the Christchurch Orchestral Society’s second concert o! the 1931 season. This orchestra plays under the baton of Professor Oddone Savini and the programme will be up to the same standard and as enjoyable as previous ones. For the occasion, Mr •Hubert Carter, the well known tenor, has been engaged. The orchestral numbers will comprise the overture to “The Barber of Seville,” the "Kroica Symphony,” “Mermaid's Dance,” the ‘•Nutcracker Suite,” “Faust” selection arid the "March Russe.”
A concert to be given by the Choir of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in the Dunedin Town Hall will be broadcast by 4YA. Mr John will conduct, with Mr Chas. A. Martin, Alus. Bach., at the piano. A very attractive programme has 'been arranged, including numerous choruses and part songs. Soprano solos by Miss Anne' White will be introduced and male voice soloists will be Messrs A. J. Parker, W. H. Satterthwaite, P. S. Anderson, J. Keenan, H. L. Paterson and P. F. Harre. There will also be a pianoforte solo and cornet duet. THURSDAY, AUGUST 27th. The Auckland Piano Students’ Association will provide the whole of the Studio concert from 1) A this evening. jMiss Doris Bransgrove, Miss Valerie Peacocke and Mr H. A. Barton will be the vocalists. There will be several piano duos and quartettes and ot particular interest on the-programme will be a number for two pianos played by three pianists. Tt is entitled “The Warriors,” by Percy Grainger. From 2YA at 7.40, Mr Johannes Anderson, Librarian at Turnbull Library, will give a leeturettc on “Maori Folk Lore.” In the 2YA studio concert, which will be of a miscellaneous nature, Mr R. J. •Madigan (bass) will sing “Sword ot Ferrara” and "Simon the Cellarer.” Mr Kdwin Bennie (tenor) and Miss Lna Raplev (soprano) will be heard in two duo't/i, Monckton’s ""Hoy and Girl' and 'Wallace’s "Oh, Maritana.” Tenor and soprano solos will also be sung. Alls Mildred Kenny’s Guitar Trio will play •‘One Alone,” “To a Miniature” and "Cherry Ripe” and “Sweet and Low.” The Orchestrina, under Signor A. I’. Truda, will contribute to the programme and selected electrical recordings will also be include*,!. The lecturer' for the International Programme at 3YA this evening will be Mr W. M. Hamilton, who will speakon “Mesopotamia To-day.” Mr Hamilton, who is a. well known lawyer, visited Irak last year. Silent clay at 4YA.
