RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) TUESDAY, AUGUST 25th. The speaker on the International Programme at IYA this evening will be Mr A. B. Chappell, M.A., who has chosen for hia subject “Making Peace on the Sea.” 2YA will relay ltvmi Wanganui a concert by the Queen Alexandra Band. An excellent programme can be looked forward to. 5
The Band of the Ist Battalion of the Otago Regiment, under the conductorship of Lieutenant Blew 0. Asten, with the “Happy Four” presenting vocal numbers, will provide 4YA’s programme this evening. The “Happy Four” will sing mixed quartettes of an earlier period, such as “Kathleen Mavourneen,” "McGregor's Gathering” and “Oh, Who will O’er the Downs so Free,” in addition to several other tuneful numbers. Mr Sydney Kershaw (baritone), Mr G. (Crawford (tenor), Miss Somerville (contralto) and Miss Evelyn Shepard (soprano) will sing solos. Mr E. Murphy, well known mouth-organ artist, will render selections from popular marches and waltzes, whilst Mr James Paterson, the ever-welcome Scottish humorist, will give three new humorous songs. Silent day at 3YA.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 26th. An address to be given by Professor H. Belshaw in the Auckland University College Hall before the Commerce Students’ Society, on “The Niemeyer Report” this evening, will be relayed by ■IYA. From 9 o’clock there will be a sfudio concert, jthe contributing artists including Miss Myra Monk (soprano) and the Aubade Trio (appearing in violin solos, piano solos, and contralto solos w.th violin obligati).
The pecond instalment of the new series of International Programmes wifi be presented at 2YA. Dr Guy H. bchoi field • will be the lecturer.
From the Radiant Hall, 3YA will this evening, relay the Christchurch Orchestral Society’s second concert of the 1931 season. This orchestra plays under the baton of Professor Oddone Savini and the programme will be up to the same standard and as enjoyable •i previous ones.' For the occasion, Mi Hubert Carter, the well known tenor, h»s been engaged. The orchestral numbers will comprise the overture to ‘‘The Barber of Seville,” the “Eroica” Symphony,” "Mermaid s Dance, the Nutcracker .Suite,” “Faust” selection and the “March Russe.”
A concert to be given by the Choir of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in the Dunedin Town Hall will be broadcast by 4YA. Mr John /leech will conduct, with Mr Chas. A. Martin, jMus. Bach., at the piano. A very attractive programme has 'been arranged, including numerous choruses and part songs. Soprano solos by Miss Anne White will be .introduced and male voice soloists*will be Messrs A. J. Parker, W. H. Satterthwaite, ! P. S. Anderson,' JKeenan, H. L. Paterson and P. F. Harre. There will also be a pianoforte solo and cornet duet.
