4VRRYBDDYB PICTURES. ELEANOR BOARDMAN RETURNS TO TALKIES IN BIG SUCCESS. “THE GREAT MEADOW.” Admirers of. Eleanor Boardman, the wife .01- that, directorial genius King Vidor, ‘were somewhat disappointed in her talking debut; but now Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer have taken her in harid again, , given .a story and a supporting cast worthy of her historic genius, and the result is a sheer delight. • “The Great Meadow” gives Miss Boardman a real chance to show her ability-as. the sweetheart of an ambitious young farmer of old Virginia who weds- him .in romantic- circumstances on the eve of a great trek to Kentucky, where they plan to “make house,” rear .a'family, and leave comfort aiid plenty behind them for their children’s ■ children. Drama and comedy, life .and death, sinew and soul are all merged in this beautifully photographed picture, which is easily the best of -the pioneer epics now showing on our screens. Some of the scenes can hardly ever be effaced from memory, and make one proud to realise that our forefathers must, have been just like that. John Mack Brown appears opposite Miss Boardman, and Gavin Gorqon, who will be remembered for his part in Greta; Garbo’s “.Romance,” is also prominently cast. Don’t miss this picture at the Princess /Theatre to-riight (Saturday). / It satisfies '-every craving one has when one wishes to see a really good picture.
