RADIO PROGRAMME

(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) SATURDAY, AUGUST 22nd. This evening, IYA will relay from the Town Hall, a concert to be given by the Municipal Band under Mr Geo. Buckley. The assisting vocalists will be Airs A. Allen and Air E. <3. Thomas. Mr nak McLennan', will play a piccolo solo. Airs Ainy Dunn (soprano) and Air Claude A loss (baritone) will be the singers on 2YA’s week-end programme. Air Aloss will be heard in three songs with orchestral accompaniment" Boat Song" (by Ware), "A Brown Bird Singing” and “In a Alonastery Garden.” The Harmony Four, a novelty instrumental quartet, will present a budget of up-to-date melodies. Air Will Yates will give ten minutes of his inimitable humour. Air Tates writes all his own material and on this occasion has chosen for his subject “Radio ‘Good. Nights.’ ’’ Air Owen Pritchard will be heard in Lauder humour. The Salon Orchestra

will play the “Student Prince,” "Tina,” a selection of old time songs, “In Olden Days,” an Hawaiian medley “Sunset Land” and the latest dance novelties. ,ur W. Haydoek will play “Violin Song’ (by Rubens).

rhe Christchurch Salon Orchestra, under Air Francis Bate, will make its second appearance at 3YA this evening, < whi n ill addition to accompanying the vocalists, it will broadcast a popular programme which will include ‘‘Pas de x’leurs,” "Liebesfreud,” “The New Sullivan Selection, “Londonderry Airs” and “Poupee Valsante.” Ihe' orchestra will also . provide accompaniments lor three cornet solos by Air N. G. Uoffiu. The singers will be Airs F. Nelson Kerr (contralto) and (Mr Douglas Suckling (tenor) noth; of whom will sing popular numoers. ui: (jleorgc Titchener will supply humour in song and story and a twenty-minutes sketch will be acted by The Mascots. A . concert to which all the musical societies of Dunedin will contribute will be giv.ii in the Dunedin Town Hall this evening and will be relay cl by 4YA. The concert is to be tendered as a compliment to Mr Chas. A. Martin, alus. Bach., who is shortly leaving Dunedin for the purpose oi going abroad to further his musical studies. MONDAY, AUGUST 24th.

Some charming works by Grieg, the famous Norwegian composer, will bo presented ■oy Airs Amv Woodward (soprano), Mrs Wilfred Andrews (contralto), Mr Gordon Short. (piano) and the Orch.strina, as the “.Musical Portrait from 2YA this evening. On the supporting programme, Air. arnest Glading, baritone, will be heard in several numbers, including Sch.ubrrt’s fanciful song "Tbe .Wraith” and “The Carpet” (by Sanduson).

3YA. will broadcast a concert by Kaiapoi artists. A particularly fine programme will include Mendelssohn’s cantata “To the .Songs of Art” as well as numerous part songs., The. Kaiapoi Orchestra, another efficient .combination,, plnving under the baton of Mr Blakeley, will play several selections, while solo instrumentalists .will include Aliss AlarJqrie Childs (pianiste) and Air W. R. Lintott a very versatile entertainer, who will present xylophone solos. On the vocal side 'of the musical programme will be two first class artists—Airs L. G. Billcliff (contralto) and Mr Gilbert Hirst (tenor). During the evening, the Mayor of Kaiapoi, the Re.v. W. H. A. ■Vickery, will speak on “Kaiapoi—Past and Present.”

TJie lecturer for the International Programme at 4YA this evening will be :Mr J. T. Cooper, president of the Otago Radio, Association, tie will speak on •'Broadcasting as a factor in International Goodwill.” •
