“The Health Department’s Inspector is of the. opinion that 75 per cent, of the Maoris in-the Franklin district have tuberculosis, owing to the eomlitons under which they are living,” said Mr Parvin, member for: Franklin on the Auckland Hospital Board. He added that the living conditions of the Franklin Maoris were equally as bad as those at Mangere (reported yesterday.) In one shed Bft by 10ft built of kerosene cases, eight persons were living, paying 2/6 rent. A lew days ago a baby was born there. Mr Wallace, chairman of the Board, said that six Maori T.B. cases from Franklin had been sent to the hospital, and lie believed there were many more not receiving proper attention. Special provision should be made by the Native Department for indigent Maori hospital cases.
