RADIO PROGRAMME

MONDAY, AUGUST 17th; This evening, the 2YA “Musical Portraits” series will be continued by Signor Lucien C'esaroni, who is well known in Italy, Australia and New Zealand; as an exponent of the works of Mozart. He will present, with his operatic company, numerous excerpts from ■Mozart’s operas “II Seraglio,” “Figaro,” “The Magic Flute” and "Don Juan.” In some instances the dialogue will be provided. Mr Gordon Short and the Orchestriua, under Signor A. P. Truda, will play-selections from Mozart’s works, ; including one of his charming minuets. The siew Brighton Municipal Band,' under Mr J. A. Nuttall, has arranged a programme of much diversity for AY A. Assisting vocalists will be Mr W. Bradshaw (who won numerous prizes at the recent Christchurch Competitions) , and Mrs Robert Sherris (mezzo-soprano), , who is making her first appearance in j radio. Two other entertainers —Mr Les. ; Grummitt (at the piano) with Mr Rex. ■Sayers as vocalist, will present a popular turn. The Christchurch Broadcast- j ing Trio will play selection* and will also accompany Mr Bradshaw in his j solos. At . 4YA, a new International Programme will be presented on Monday evening. The feature turns will, include “The Vitaphone Orchestra,” “'Radio Sweethearts,” “Forget Me not” and “The Irresistible Imps.” The lecturer ■will be Mr A. J. Woods, M.A. Lecturer in History at Dunedin Training College. , tie will speak on “Some Historic Aspects of Internationalism.” Silent day at IYA. I TUESDAY, AUGUST. 18th j The lecturer for lYA’s International Programme this evening will be Mr Tom Bhxidworth, who wII speak on “The ■Work of the International Labour Office.” A studio concert of the popular type will be broadcast by 2YA. The vocal portion will be given by the Lyric, Quartet, singing a number of favourite quartettes and solos . Miss Christina Ormiston (soprano) will be heard in “Songs My Mother Taught Me,” "Annie Laurie,”, ‘“Ma Curly Headed Babbv” and “What ever is, is Best.” She will also sing “Sluiflber Song,” with quartet and violin obligato. The Salon Orchestra, underr Mr M. T. Dixon, will supply the Instrumental programme and will aocompany the playing of the violin solo, “Chanson Meditation,’-’ by Mr W v.aydock. A concert by the St. Ivilda Band, under Air James Dixon, assisted by rocal artists, will be broadcast by 4YA. Miss Noni Davidson Miss M. V. -’Kim-ward "■'(contralto) and 5 Mr "H. P. Desmoulins (baritone) will be the soloists. ’I wo humorous Cockney sketches will be acted by the Winkel-Lampen Radio Players. The evening's programme will be a very popular one ; ■Silent day at YYA.
