WELLINGTON HOLD-UPS
THREE ARRESTS MADE. MASKS AND ARMS FOUND. aj Telegraph--. Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 14. In the course of their investigations in connection with the reported holdups which have occurred in the suburbs of Wellington during the past week, Detective McLennan and Constable Scarry arrested two men at Petone at ten o’clock last night, on a charge of attempted breaking and entering. Detective McLennan communicated with the Detective Office at Wellington, and, as a result of certain information which he supplied, detectives went to Abel Smith Street, where they arrested at 3 a.rn., a third man on a charge of breaking, entering valid theft. When this man’s lodgings were subsequently searched, the detectives found a- mask, an automatic pistol, ammunition, and two bludgeons. Leslie Gordon Clark, aged 22 years, and Sidney John Hodge, aged 35 years, were charged in the Police Court at Petone to-day with attempted breaking and entering on the 31st of July of the Self Help Co-op Store, in Jackson Street, with intent to commit theft.
They were remanded to appear at Wellington on 22nd August. William Edward Brown, cabinetmaker, aged 27 years, appeared before Mr E, Page, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court. He was remanded until 27th August on a charge of breakng and entering the warehouse of the Saracen Shoe Company, and stealing goods valued at six pounds.
