QUESTION OF INTOXICATION

HAMILTON, August 12. , A jockey, William Alexander Rennie (Mr A. L. Tompkins), was charged before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court with ' being intoxicated while in charge ot a car. Accused pleaded not guilty. 1 Evidence was given by (Amst'aMo ML’ean that, as a result of complaint that,,.accused bad collided with a- stationary car in Greenwood . - Street, Frankton, he saw Accused and considered'that he was intoxicated and was not in a fit condition to drive a car. Accused said he was reducing his weight and had had no food yesterday. He had a brandy and soda in the afternoon, but was not intoxicated. The car he struck was unlighted, and was halfway beween two lamp posts. The Magistrate expressed the view that the . police had ; made a .mistake in considering that Rennie was intoxicated. The information was dismissed.
