TRAVELLING EXPENSES
POWER BOARD MEMBERS.
TIMARU, August 11
“Members of your board are not entitled to mileage for attending meetings in eases where a bus or train can be used,” advised the Audit inspector in a letter to the South Can* terbury Electric Power Board read at to-day’s meeting. The letter stated that where a suitable public convey-
ance was available, the fare only could be claimed. Members living at a little distance from the departure point of bus and train were entitled to claim mileage from their houses to such point of departure, as well as garage charges for the day. It was agreed that the engineer-sec-retary (Mr G. W. Morrison) interview the Auditor-General. Mr B. R. MacDonald: It always seems to me an extravagant method for members living in the same districts to each claim separate mileages for their cars* when one mileage and car would suffice. It appears to me that the expenses of this board are too high.
