WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 12th,
This evening, the Auckland Dramatic Students, under the direction of Mr
,J. F. Montague, will present in IYA Studio, a 1 dramatic play "Marco Polo," adapted from the novel of Donn Byrne. A brief musical programme will follow.
Dr Guy H. Seholctield, 0.8. E., will be the lecturer during the international Programme at 2YA.
A •‘Farmer Brown ’ dialogue, in which Farmer Brown discusses seed mixtures with the instructor, will be broadcast by 3YA on relay from the 4YA Studio at 7.15 p.m. Concerted singing by the Grand Opera Quartet will be a feature of 3YA’s programme, which will also include a recital by-Mr Harold Prescott* the well known tenor. He will sing four of Cadman’s American Indian Songs. Mr ■Francis Bate, ’cellist, will play three solos, including ivahn’s "Avo Maria” and Popper’s Gavotte.’’ The Studio Octet, under Mr Harold will provide a popular programme of orchestral
music. A concert devoted to the works of New Zealand composers will be broadcast from 4YA Studio. This programme has been organised at the suggestion of the 4YA Musical and Dramatic Committee. Quartettes by Phillpot will be sung by Miss Freda Eh ms, Miss Mary Pratt, Mr Ernest Drake and Mr Wilfred Kershaw. Miss -Klines and Mr Kershaw will sing songs by Alfred Hill. A song by Miss Brett, of Auckland, "dorses of the be sung by Miss Pratt, .vir Ernest Drake wdl sing R. A. Horne's “Ave Maria” and Miss Bertha Rawlinsop’s "Over, the Jlilis,” to each of which Miss E. Osborne will comprise two poems by Tom Bracken. The eve dug's programme will include a halfhours lA.ture-r-cltal by Mr W. Paget Gale, under the auspices of the Society of Professional Musicians of Otago. THURSDAY, AUGUST 13th. lYA’s studio concert this evening will be provided by the Auckland Society of Musicians and will be of a classical nature. Vocal numbers will be contributed by Miss Gwenda Weir (soprano), .Miss Margaret Reilly, Miss Norma Jail (contralto) and Mr E. Churchhouse. The instrumentalists will be ■Miss Lois Walls (violin), Miss Dora Judson '(piano), Miss Balia Henius (’cello), Miss Richardson (piano) and Air David Whisker (Bute). A studio concert by the .Singing Circle of the Pioneer Club under the direction of. Mrs, Ginn, in association with the Salon Orchestra, will be broadcast bv 2YA. There will be numerous choruses. The soloists for the evening will be Mr Ei'ic Goodtr (tenor), Mrs A. 'S. Mitchell (mezzo-contralto), Mr J. ! X. Goodson (baritone) and Miss Ethna Grieg ((soprano). A violin solo ‘Uanzonetta” by D’A'inbrosio, will be played by Mi' W. Haydock. The lecturer for the International Programme at 3YA will be Dr C. E. Beeby, of Canterbury College. His subject will be “Alan Versus Machines in America.”Silent day at 4YA.
