HEAVY GALE
RACEGOERS CATCH IT. (By Telegraph—rer Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. A gale brought down telegraph wires near Amberley and also south of Kaikoura and near Sockburn, probably due to falling trees. Gangs are now repairng. Many sheds were unroofed in and around tbe city. The conditions at the Trots for a time were indescribable it being impos iible to walk against the gjalo. Hate were blown in all directions. Be. fore the first race it was impossible for a time to open tbe shutters of the outside tote for fear of damage. LABOURER INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. T. Low of Rangiora a builder’s labourer, was admitted to the hospital with severe internal injuries, caused by a fall clue to the gale blowing over a ladder on which he was working.
