DRIVER’S NARROW ESCAPE. MISHAP AT PALMERSTON PALAFE.RSTOX NORTH", August 7. The sight of a sudden blue flame shooting up in front of him, accompanied bv the sound of breaking glass, were the only indications given to a Palmerston ‘North motorist, who was proceeding down. Rangitikei Street at 2.56 a.in. yesterday morning, that anything was amiss in the apparently deserted street. Investigations revealed that a street light at the intersection of Grey Street had become dislodged and was hanging about a font above the ground. Fortunately the wire caught below the bumper of the car .and the “live ’ wire connection, carrying a 250-volt current, was immediately broken, otherwise the consequences would probably have been much more serious. , Only minor damage was done to the car, but the electric and telephone line required extensive repairs.
