The serious violent thunderstorms which occurred throughout France during the week cud caused great damage. Floods and several dent!* culminated in a. tornardo at Toulon, following a lour months drought. A terrific wind l)lew a motor car front a street into a shop window, overturned a hearse carrying a coffin, killed a boy cyclist and flattened vineyards. Roads wci'o washed away and communications destroyed, preventing complete news of the havoc. There is a heavy death roll among pleasure boats and fishing vessel.;, which set off in a calm sea and blue sky and which were overwhelmed by huge waves. Over fifty are missing and thirteen bodies were washed ashore. There is great anxiety for the yachts participating ir the Marseilles-Corsical race including two British and French. A torpedo boat is now making a search
