Good batting by Lowry, Dempster, Vivian -and Blunt gave New Zealand cricketers a respectable first innings lead in the match against Gloucestershire. Play was resumed' at 2.15 after isteady rain in the morning. Mills was dismissed by Rogers with ,a, fast medium height ball which came in quickly. Dempster and Vivian ■added 75 for the second wicket. The latter attacked the bowling confidently and hit sixers off Goddard and Libfield. He was caught when attempting to steer a ball to leg. He batted for fifty-seven minutes.

Dempster was caught by the wicket keeper after an .admirable all round display. He showed no loss of 1 form, after Ills enforced rest. His innings lasted 98 minutes. Weir and Pago were dismissed in rapid succession.
