Completely blocking pedestrian traffic, in two busy city streets, one thousand people gathered in, wide queues to-day for tickets for the first New South . Wales State Lottery. Tlie official opening of the lottery was marked by remarkable scetwW. Hundreds of people assembled at six o’clock this morning, arid hundreds more were unable to buy tickets. So great was the crush that a large staff was unable to cope wTEIi it. , Women seemed to predominate, but there was a large percentage of men. These obviously were unemployed men. The magnificent building of ‘the New South' Wales Government, Savings Bnrik. formerly handling millions of the people’s money, is now-the headof the State lottery.
