RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, AUGUST 10th. The weekly “Musical Portrait” series at 2YA this evening will take the form of a programme ot classical dances, to be presented by Mis* Gladys Watkins ipianisti.) and Mrs Mancie Holloway (Violinist). The Ar.el Singers will give another of their excellent programmes, which are always keenly enjoyed by 2YA listeners. The. Orchestrina j under Signor A. P. Truda, will play three numoers, besides orch.sfral accompaniments. Included im» 2YA’s programme oh Monday evening will ~>e a delightful talk on “The Music of Shakespeare” by Mr Baeycrtz, of Sydney, who is in Wellington as adjudicator for the elocutionary section of the Wellington 'Competitions.
The VVoolston Brass Band, under Mr <R. J. Kstall, will provide a programme for 3YA. The assisting vocalists will be Mrs Winifred Andrews (mezzo-contralto), Mr Jack Blair (songs at the piano), Mr J. Filer (bass), Mr H. Instone (humorist; and Bandsman Biggs, who will contribute two xylophone solos. An interesting item on 3YA’s programme will be a talk by Mr K. Iveagh Lord who will entertain listeners with “Reminiscenes of Early Riccarton,” nowadays a household 'Word with all follbwers of the Sport of Kings and a subject yery suitable for Grand National Week.
The speaker for the 4YA 'lnternational Programme this evening will be -Mr A. J. Woods, ,’M.A., Lecturer in History at Dunedin Training College. He will speak on “'Some Historic Aspects of Inc.rUationalism.” Silent day at IYA.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 11th. The speaker for the International Programme at IYA this evening will be ~v> uofuon Robertson, who will speak ‘ !•'••• L.:mai Outlook in -tit and Literature. I ’. '’s programme will be a sketch entitled “The Signal” (by Landon)i The scene is laid on the bridge „ niece'.ant steamer coining up • the TT.fir/lUb f’b«*"H . : n the vear 1917. The sketch is being produced by Mr Victor j. l.loyu. Un the supplementary programme the Salon Orchestra will be 'v M'd in “Suiti from the Countryside,” “Child’s Dream,” “Danse Espagnole,” “Intermezzo” (from Strauss’s “1001 ights”), “In Downlands." “A Love Song,” and “The Bells.” 'I he Melodic Four will delight listeners with quartettes and solos. 3YA will not be observing a silent day, but from 11.00 a.m. .is broadcasting the results of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Meeting at Riccarton. In \ the evening, a holiday programme will \be nrt'sented. The Hilo Harmony Foitr, with steel guitars and ukelele, will provide some., bright music.' Miss Addie Campbell always a very popular performer, will sing, among other numbers “Indian L(ove Call” (from “Rose Marie”). Mr Clive Hindle will sing three popular baritone songs. There will be contralto solos by Mrs Stafiard. All the vocal items will have orchestral accompaniment, The humour of the programme will be provided by Mr Geo. Titchener and orchestral selections will be played by the aidio Octet.’
A concert to be in the Tudor Hall, Dunedin, by the Dunedin Orphans’ Club, will be broadcast by 4YA. It will be “Ladies Night ” and a most attractive, programme has been arranged. Part ! of the program in I .' will be given bv Orphans A. Walmsley, J. A. iHaggitt, ■S. J. Angell, H. W. Jiggers, S. H. Osborne, T. C. .WilEams and a string quintet party. Part 2 of the programme will be given by a Pierrot Party.
