At Forest Hills, the United S-ates regained the ■ Wightman Cup on Saturday. Miss H. Jacobs defeated Nilss Mudford 6—4, 6—2. Miss Mud,ford’s service was highly effective, but she could not compete with Miss Jacobs' back-hand drives. Miss Mudford rapidly t’red under the extreme heat. Mrs Helen Wills-Moody defeated Miss 'Betty Nuthatl 6—4, 6—2. before a gallery of eight thousand. Miss Nuthall began briskly by' taking foulstraight points for the opening game ; but Mrs Moody broke through her service in the third for a two to one lead ; but she was ontstrokerl in the fourth, and lost her own delivery, a? NEW YORK, August 9. Mrs Harper defeated Miss Dorothy Round in a marathon match of almost two hours 6—3, 4—6, 9—7. Miss Round had point set five times in the third stt, but Mrs Harper rallied. The United States thus required only one victory in Saturday’s four matches to win the trophy. Miss Shepherd and Miss Mudford defeated Mrs Wightman and Miss S. Palfrev u—4, 10—8. 'Misses Nuthall and Benmtt defeated Mrs Helen WillsMoody and Mrs Harper B—6, 5 —7, 6—3.
