SOVIET RAID

ON FRONTIER CHURCH

WARSAW, August 5

It is reported from Vilna that an O.G.P.U. (Russian Soviet) detachment raided/ a Catholic Church in a village near the Russian frontier. They shot dead seven worshippers, and wounded fourteen worshippers They also arrested one hundred and forty-five worshippers. The leader of the detachment stated that he was informed that the meeting was one of counter revolutionaries, being held in the church. He stated that the troops got out of control •when they were refused admission.

The shootings have caused a panic among the Catholic population.
