FOOTBALL

WEST COAST RUGBY UNION.

The weekly meeting was held at Grey mouth last evening. J. Barran applied for a trasfer from Excelisior Club to the Rival Club, and tbe Westland Sub-Union recommended that it be granted. Hie Secretary said that the SubUnion had not been notified that no transfers were to be granted after Tuesday, July 28th.

Hie application was therefore granted.

A telegram was received (from 'the Duller Rugby Union asking the Union il possible to play the return home 1 and borne match with Duller on Saturday next.

Mr Ryan considered it quite a good idea to play the match next Saturday. As Duller still hold the Seddon Shield the match would excite great interest, more so than if it were played later in the season, when there was tlie chance that Duller would not have the Shield. The Union must consider the financial aspect of the question.

The Chairman said the Union should be very careful about the matter, for if they stood their club players down too long, interest would soon wane Last Saturday no fixtures were played and the playing of the Buller match on Saturday next would mean that nearly all fixtures would have to be suspended for that day. Thus players would bo idle for two Saturdays running.

Air Williams considered the Union should carry on "with its fixtures which at the present time wore more important to the Union.

Air Guy said that August 22 would lie a better date. They would , then have tbe opportunity of developing a Ift tie combination Air tlie Alaori match on the 29th. The Chairman said it was much bettor from tbe Union’s point of view to go on with the fixtures. Representative games wore not in tlie interests of club football. If tlie match were played on Saturday there was the risk of loss of interest in club games. Air Guy moved that the 41 Duller Union fie notified that Saturday next August Bth. was not a 'suitable date for this' Union, but suggesting August 22. Air Eggleton seconded the motion.

Air Ryan moved an amendment that the Duller Union be advised that Saturday next, August 8, was a suitable date for tlie return match and that this .Union be prepared to play tin' match. Air La wry seconded the amendment, which was lost on the voices and the motion was then carried.

Referees’ reports were read and received .

In reply to a query from Mr AVilliams, the Chairman stated that no West Coasters bad been nominated tor inclusion in the South. Island team.

It was decided to enter a challenge lor the Seddon Shield, lie] ( j by Mr Ibe date of the match to lie decided by tbt' Duller Union. The following fixtures w'.'re arranged for Saturday next, August 8: Senior: Stars v. Cobden at Victoria "Park,."'’A Ground. 3 p.lll. (Air H McIntosh); United v.
