The first round of the matches of the Victorian Amateur Golf Championship was remarkable for the defeat of the veteran, A. Jackson, by the six-teen-year-old golfer, H. L. Williams, who gave an exhibition first-class outdriving of his opponent off practically every tee, and playing his irons witn mechanical accuracy, winning by four' and three. After a great struggle at the thirtyseventh hole F. Bulta eliminated the former open champion, Ivo Whitten at the final hole. Sloan Morpeth defeated L. McPherson 5 and 3.
