EXPORT OF BUTTER
DOMINION'S NEW RECORD. “It is a gratifying fact and one that should be broadcasted throughout New Zealand, that the total imports of hutr ter from the Dominion into the United Kingdom for the first five months of this year are considerably larger than the total from Denmark during he .same period,” states the firm of Samuel Page and Son, in the review of the dairy pr udeco —■? —? review of the dairy produce dated June 22nd. “The exact excess amounts to 52,077ewt., or over 2600 tons,” the report continues. “This greater quantity, as compared with establishes a record ;no previous year shows so complete a demonstration of the manner in which New Zealand is surpassing her greatest rival. Under these conditions it is not surprising tlia the difference in values between New Zealand and Danish is somewhat wider than in June, 1930, when the total imports from the Dominion for the first five months of ha year, as compared with the’ corresponding period of 1929, were 46,00 cwt less. “Another interesting fact is that the supplies in May from Australia, New Zealand and Denmark taken together account for more than five-sevenths of the total quantity imported into the United Kingdom, while regarding Elm pire butter alone, the imports of Australia and New Zealand are 112,000 ewt more than from Denmark. In connexion with Empire supplies, the Commonwealth and the Dominion many justly be proud of the magnifiqcent increase in export they have achieved in. relation to Denmark, which has for so many years been the chief competitor. The rate of increase in shipments to the United Kingdom in these three largest butter-producing countries of the world taking the figures of May, 1831, against the corresponding month 20 years ago (1911) is as- follows: — Denmark, 33 per cent.; Australia, 145 per cent., New Zealand, 415 per cent.” . .
