(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) SATURDAY, AUGUST Ist. Three will be a misct-llamous weekend concert from IYA on Saturday, August 1. Air J. A. Shanks, oaritone, will be s.nging, and Aliss Joyce Mould, the well known elocutioniste, will be heard in two humorous numbers. A new ar.ist to perform will be Airs G. T. Brian, a very versatile lady, who is giving sevl 'al songs at the piano. The Orchestral Octet will be heard in numbers which are sure to be popular. •At 2YA, a feature of the programme will be the Bridges Trio, a comb.nation of clever young players from Uangaiiui. They are experts on xylophone and guitars and have appeared before the microphone at all the leading broadcasting stations ill 'Australasia. Mr Walter 'Brough, baritone, a well known and popular singer from IYA, will make his appearance at 2YA. Miss Florence Penney, L.A.8., will feature popular songs at the piano. The Salon Orchestra will present a programme and Air W. Haydock will play a -iolin solo with orchestral accompaniment, ‘‘Afelodie,” by Tschaikowsky. A very popular musical play, “Going Up,” will be featured at 4YA and relayed to 3YA, when all the principal vocal 10111)1)01'“ in solo . and concerted form, will be sung by The Majors. < I timorous numbers "ill be contributed by Mr Lester F. Aloller and light instrumental music will be added to the programme by a quintet under Mr A. H Petlitt. Piano novelties will be contributed by Air Pettitt. MONDAY, AUGUST 3rd. The “Musical Portrait" series, a feature of the .Monday evening programmes it 2YA, will be continued this evening by Air Krnest Jenner, who will present, with Aliss Ava Symons, another aspect of Bee, hoven's genius, the famous '•Kreutzer Sonata.’’ He will also play sel-ctions from Beethoven's p.ano works. Mr Denis Sheard (tenor) will sing the Flower Song" (irom "Carmen'’) and “Vesti la Guibba" (Irom “1 Pagkacci ) with orchestral accompaniment, besides two light numbers. Aiiss Joan Percy, a soprano from Master ton, will contribute two ballads and Aliss Alary Bald will sing two contralto songs. An interesting item will be the performance on two 'cellos of part of one 'of Handel s Sonatas. This will be played by Aliss \athleen Goodson and Air Claude laiiner. The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, will play some fine items, including a symphony by .Mozart. 3YA's programme for to-night, th eve of the anniversary of Britain's entry into the Great War, "’ill be somewhat out of the ordinary. It will be a ".Military Night,” every item being of a military nature. Massed Trumpeters will op. n proceedings with the "Reveille.’’ During the evening they will also sound the "Retreat’’ and as a finale to he evening’s concert they will sound the "Last Post.” Two bands—those attached to the Canterbury Yeomanry C’u'-alry and the First Battalion of the Canterbury Regiment—will contribute to the programme, and Alessrs Harold Prescott AY. Toomey and T. Al. Charters will sing. Mr J. R. Tester and Mr Harold Shaw will give elocutionary numbers and will present a sketch ' I he New Recruit.” During the evening a talk on the new territorial defend scheme will be given. The subject of the lecturette during the International Programme at 4YA this evening will be “Education for iternational Understanding.” The speaker will be Mr Frank Milner, C.M.G., Rector of AVaitaki Bovs’ High School. Silent day at IYA.
