MAORI MOTHER’S MISTAKE. AUCKLAND, July 23. ‘‘That was a big mistake all right,” said a Maori woman who admitted, ■while giving evidence in ?. trial before his Honor Mr Justice Herdman, that she had not registered the. birth of one child until fourteen years later. The girl was born in September, 1915, and tiie bir.h was registered in March, 1929. I lie mother’s explanation was that she had asked ha 1 husband to notify the Registrar but he forgot and the omission was not discovered unt : l after his death. During her evidence witness said she had fourteen children, five of whom were alive.
