WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE

THURSDAY, JULY 30. The annual meeting of the League took place at the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock. Present: Dr. Teichelmann, (President), Messrs T. W. Duff, Dew, Evans, Coles, Jeffries, Newman, Bruce, W. Wilson. The minutes of previous meetings were eemfirmed, and the corrsepondenee approved. , INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Winter Show, suggesting a exhibit on space which would be provided. Received, and action itt deferring matter till next year approved. From Westland County Council and Graham Bros, and others forwarding contributions to advertising scheme.— Received with thanks. From W. K. McAlpitie; agreeing to act as Branch representative on the parent League.—Received with thanks. From Canterbury Progiess League, forwarding reports and copies of League minutes.—Received. Mr Jeffries moved that a vote of appreciation ba passed to the League for the interest shown in the Branch, Mr Wilson seconded. Carried. The election of officers. resulted:—• President, Dr Teiehelehiann; Vice* President, Mr J. J. Mclntosh; Executive, Messrs Butler, Wilson, Evans, Richards. Duff,’ Newman, Jeffries, Bruce, and Dew; Secretary, Mr 11, O. If, Coles; League representative, Mr W. K. McAlpind. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £6/18/6. Received and adop., ted, and a vote of thanks passed to the auditor, Mr Bruce'. The President repeated a gift of four coloured pictures from the Tourist Department, which it was resolved to have framed for publicity purposes. It was decided to made representations to the authorities respecting th 9 retention of the present southern mail and passenger service as being most serviceable and convenient for all concerned. The view was .expressed that there was no objection to an adjustment of the railway service to give Ross connection with the Christchurch service on Tuesday night, as well as Thursday as at present. It was decided on the motion of Mr Duff to support the proposal for the erection of a bridge at the Bealey crossing the Waimakariri and to urge, the speedy undertaking of the work. It was resolved ah s "' to write ibe Commissioner of Lands in respect to the use of a reserve at South Hokitina. for an aeroplane landing, the site haying been approved by Captain McGregor as suitable for the purpose. The meeting concluded at 8.30 p.m.
