SMITH AND ULM OUT OF WORK, SYDNEY, July 23. : It is possible following the tempor. ary closing down of Australian National Airways, of which Air-Commodore lvingsford Smith and Flight-Lieu tenand C, T. P. Ulm are managing directors, that these two famous airmen may accept, an engagement in a foreign country. . - Kings ford Smith did not deny that he had received offers of employment from other countries,, and stated that as aviation was his living he would have to go where his work took him. He said that naturally he did not want to leave Australia. The question was raised in the Australian Senate, when Senator Foil asked; the Minister of Defence if the Government would make any effort to find employment for two such valuable aviation experts as Smith and Ulm. In replying, the Minister said that the matter was under consideration, especially since it was realised that any breaking up of tire National Airways organisation would involve the loss of a team of trained pilots such as .had few equals in the world. Many prominent citizens are perturbed at the possibility of losing Kingsford Smith and Ulm, and efforts are being made to retain th’eir services in Australia. ... ..........
