MACKELVIE PICTURES
AN ARTIST’S APPRECIATION. (By Telegraph,—Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 23. “Having heard so much adverse criticism of the Mackelvie pictures I was agreeably surprised at the collection when I visited the art gallery,”' remarked Mr Norman Liildsay, a prominent Australian artist, who left Auckland by the Aorangi this morning on his way to New York. “They are well up to 'the standard of what is fit to be shown in a public gallery and in my opinion what has been said of them does them much too little credit. They are modern pictures and there is enough variety there to provide material forthoughtful study by New Zealand artists. They provide a big gamut of naint and embody inspiration enough to be of definite value to young artists in this country.”
