A. J. MORTON. AETAT 71. A private message received this morni ing recorded the death U. Air Albert James Alorton, 8.A., formerly Inspector of Schools in Weitiand, wl.i.h place yesterday, suddenly at Auckland. Air Alorton was for several years Inspector and Secretary of the Westland Education Board, until that body was merged into the Canterbury Board when he was transferred to the North Island, and later retired. For several years he was conductor of the Hokitika Glee Club, which performed some important cantatas and oratorios. Air Morton was a member of the libarary committee of the Westland Insitute for several years. Mr Aim-ton was a well-known personality in Westland during his stay in the district, travelling to all parts in connection with the inspection of Westland schools. He was a President and popular member of the Hokitika Bowling Club. Deceased leaves a widow to whom the sympathy of many friends in this district will be extended, EDMUND STRATFORD. GRE y aiOTJTH, July 28. Obituary.—Edmund Stratford, timbermiller. He was horn a Wellington in 1849 and came to the Coast in 1869. Mr Edmund Stratford, one of the principal proprietors of Stratford, Blair and Company, sawmiUers, was born in the year 1849, at the Hutt* neap Wellington, where he went to school, He commenced work in connection with farming, and removed to the West Coast, in 1869. For some time Air Stratford was engaged in contract work in the construct.on of railway and county bridges. in the year 1887, he commenced a sawmilling business, in conjunction with Air Blair, under the style of Stratford and Blair. The firm was afterwards changed to Stratford, Blair and Company, and was incorporated as a limited company, under the same style in the February, 1905. Air-Stratford married a daughter of the late Air Henry Pellipg, of Greymouth. and lias three soils.
