ROSS NEWS.

' (Our Own "Correspondent.) ' The ' Fjre Brigade Ball which look place in the Totara Hal) last Friday evening was one of the most'successful functions held for some considerable 1 time. j The hall proved too small to properly accommodate the large crowd present. .Nevertheless everyone seemed, to thoroughly enjoy the night’s entertainment. There were upwards of a dozen cars from North while a number also came from the South. The floor was in splendid order and the hall nicely decorated with coloured streamers and greenery. Supper being provided by the committee. The waltzing competition drew .a dozen couples, and created much interest. The three judges, after cafeful consideration awarded the.first place to Fireman A. Head and his partner Miss Nancy MeMullan, while Fireman W. Blacklow with Miss lsobel Mitchell were placed second. Mr R. Richards in a brief speech handed the Siver Cup j to Fireman Head while his partner also received a suitable present. Mr Head suitably replied on behalf of bis partner and hiniself. The Ross Orchestra of 6 instruments supplied the music for the ball, and as this orchestra is recognised to he the host on the Coast, it accounts considerably to the success of the evening. Firemen A. Head and R. Richards had charge of the floor and carried out their duties in a very creditable manner.
