He indicated that the measure would go much further than the hill introduced during the brief session. lime is to be allowed for the winding up of gift schemes in existence. From expressions of opinion that had reached him it seemed that the measure would he generally welcomed and have a speedy passage. Unless so directed, the Bill would not he referred to a Ftelect Committee. Government had viewed the whole question in all its aspects and was of the opinion that the proposals to he placed before Parliament were in the’ interests not only of retailers whose legitimate trade had fallen considerably, hut also in the interests and for the protection of the purchasing public.
