PRISONER SHOT
MISTAKEN FOR KANGAROO. (Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.) ■SYDNEY; July 24. Mistaken for a kangaroo, Herbert O’Brien, aged 42, an inmate of Brookfield prison camp near Bombala was fatally shot by a warder. O’Brien was to have been released in twelve days time after serving fifteen years. O’Brien, because of his exemplary behaviour, was granted, many privReges and accompanied the warder on a kangaroo hunt. The official, in semi darkness, fired at a movement in th r foliage and rushing to the spot found O’Brien seriously .wounded in the groin. 1.
