THAMES, July 22.. ■An inquest into the death ot Joze •Jzatich, who was found dead in the bush at the back of Tliaiiits,.on Sim? ilav, was- held before Mr J. Glessing,, j.p. ■ \ * f : Medical evidence showed that * deceased had broken h ; s spine, fractured his pelvis and had other wounds and probably fractured his skull, evidently caused by falling from a great height. Iz'atieh, -who was a gum digger, was found at the foot of a two hundred foot cliff. A verdict of accidental death was returned. CIGARETTE COUPON THIEF. WELLINGTON, July 22. One of the women concerned in the the't of, cigarette coupons, the property of W. D. and H O. Wills. Ltci., appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court - She was Elizabeth Haines, aged 34. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, admitted her to probation for two years on the usual conditions and on the further condition that she pays by instalments under the direction ot the Probation Officer the costs of the prosecution, £7 Is. DIPHTHERIA OUTBREAK. CHRISTCHURCH. July 23. Alarm is being felt, particularly in Waltham and Sydenham districts, over the outbreak of diphtheria which has affected attendances at the schools. No deaths have occurred. Twelve cases have been reported at Waltham for the past three months, and the disease is not yet coped with. A number of adults-are also affected.
