THE CHEERFUL TRAVELLER
ETERNITY OF RELIGION. One of the red Repulieian.s of 1793 was telling a good peasant of La Vendee: “We are going to pull clown your churches and steeples—all that recalls the; superstitions of past ages, and all that brings to your mind the idea of God.” “Citizen,” replied the good Yendean, “pull clown the stars then.”
