CHINESE KIDNAPPING

The entire foreign community dias been stirred by the disappearance ot a British youth, Tliorburn, aged nineteen on June first, whom British Consular investigations. circumstantially prove was kidnapped and possibly maltreated by native soldiery within 50 miles of Shanghai. Tlie Nanking Government’s report denies all knowledge of the whereabuots of Tliorburn. National societies, supported by more than three thousand British signatures are cabling to London, demanding strong action. Die affair is creating unprecedented international indignation.
