A DEPUTATION
FROM TOMATO GROWERS,
( By Telegraph—Per Press Association) WELLINGTON. July 22. The question of encouraging and assisting those who make a living by farming -small plots within urban areas, was raised by a deputation' from the Tomato and -Small Fruit Growers’ Association which waited on -Hein, de la Perelle to-day, The Minister was urged to endeavour to place on the statute book legislation to provide the nefessary rating relief, Hon. de la Perelle promised to go into the matter very carefully, am. see if it- would be possible to frame a Bill to meet the de-sires of all sides. The question of framing regulations to compel retailers To state the origin of the tomatoes offered for sale, wasraised. It was stated that many retailers made a practice of labelling field tomatoes as hot house grown, and similar, trouble regarding island tomatoes. The ’Minister said this was a matter, for consideration by the Industries and Commerce Committee. He would instruct the officers to go into the matte: and see what could be done.
