INTER-CLUB DEBATE
ST. MARY’S V. ALL. Sails IS’
The above inLer-Club debate took' place at St. Mary's Club Rooms last Willing, ihere was a representative at- x tendance of both clubs present arid the evening was most eiijOyaPly spent. The subject for discussion was:—“That Trade ,s' oeneneial to Industry,”' - St. 'Mary’s taking the affirmative and All 'Saints’ the negative. Although most of the the debaters made their first appearance in inter-club work they showed , good knowledge of. the subject and are to be commended for their efforts. With experience they will improve, . and if they continue the keen interest shown they will make very good speakers. An apology was made for the unavoidable absence of ißey. Father MdKay. The President of St. Mary’s Club, Mr J.. Stopforth welcomed the visitors, and introduced the various speakers. Mr Menzies, Rector of the District High School, u;as judge and performed his duties very capably and Messrs G. Wormington and W. E. Richards were appointed critics for St. Mary’s and All iSaints’ respectively. The Judge/in , the course of his remarks, congratulated the.. speakers v. ; .on their work. At the conclusion of the debate Rev. Knights, Messrs W. Jeffries and J. B. , - Ward congratulated the speakers. on- the fine showing. They, offered, some very ; < useful criticism and all expressed pleasure that inter-club .debates had . again been revived between St. Mary s and All Saints’, which 5 prior to’ the outbreak of the War ; had; always taken place and were" " fnost--enjoyable. ; The President of St. Mary’s /Club, thanked ,Mr Menzies for acting as judge and also for the audience'for the attentive heating given the speakers. The leaders of both teams then ex- . changed compliments at the conclusion of which the visitors were entertained at supper.
