SATURDAY, JULY 18tl A concert by . the Auckland MunicipaJ Band will be relayed from the Town Hall by IYA this evening. The Wellington Y.M.C.A.. Optimists (Jlub win provide 2YA's programme. Listeners are all familiar' with ahe type of programme presentfed by this bright and breezy club, and this evening’s entertainment will be no exception to the' rule. In conjunction with the Optimists will be the Salon Orchestra, under Mr M. T. Dixon, to be heard in selections such as : ‘‘Sanderson’s Popular .Songs,” “Country Dance Tunes,” “Jack O’ Lantern,” "Valse Mignonne,” “Pale Moon,” : R pples,” the concert waltz "Amour- . ette” and the latest dance novelties. “The Sultan of Ju-ju-Land,” a comedy with an eastern atmosphere, will be produced in 4YA Studio and broadcast by 3YA and 4Y.A. It is an entertainment .with many novel features and sparkles with fun and humour. The revue has been arranged by Mr W. B. Lambert and he will direct its presentation. MONDAY, 'JULY 20th.' 2YA listeners are assured of a treat this evening, when another complete operii will be broadcast. Offenbach's tuneful work, “iho Tales of Hoffman, has been chosen lor this occasion, and :t will be presented, in English, by the Orpheus Musical Society, under Mi iHarison Cook. Solo parts will be taken by Miss Jeannette Briggs, L.A.8., Miss Ngaire Coster, Messrs Edwards, Ray Kemp, H. B. Robb and* C. W. 'Batten. Derry’s Military Band, under Mr J. Scott, "will provide a programme for 3YA. Included among the items will lie a saxophone quartette, ‘ Norwegian Cradle Song” by members of the band. The vocalists for the evening will be Mrs Lucy O’Brien (soprano), Mrs Grace Kmpson (mezzo-soprano), Mr Donald McCulloch (bass-baritone). and Mr James ilarragh (humorist). The lecturer for the International (Programme at 4YA tlr.s evening, vw be Mr John Ash, of the literary staff of the “Evening Star.” He will speak on ; “Africa, as viewed internationally.’ Silent day at IYA.
