WEST COAST A. & P. ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL REPORT. The following report, to. be presented to the annual meeting of .tlie West Coast A. and P. Association, to be held on July 20, states that the Assor eiation had another successful year; tins was all the more satisfactory as it was suggested that owing‘to the depression the show should he abandoned fo/ last season. However, the show was field, resulting in the assdlh'lfiqn being able to pay £75 off the debenture account, which now stands at £225, besides making a substantial reduction in the overdraft account. Whilst it was plesaing to- be able to report that the show was successful financially, it was to be regretted that the cattle, sheep, and pig classes were not well filled, and if.the association was to fulfil the main object for which it was started, ways and means must be found to encourage breeders and owners to exhibit more freely. During the past season tlie association was the recipient of a fine silver shield from Teacher and Sons, Ltd. This shield was allotted to the herd test:ng competition, and it was gratifying to know that tlie winning herd, belonging to Mr J.Munk, of Kokatahi, put up such a fine record as 382.281 b of butter-fat for 23fi days, with a herd of 38 cows. It was to be hoped that tlie shield would he tlie means of creating a healthy rivalry' between the owners of herds, and that next season a still better record would be made. The result of the herd testing competition afforded a pleasant surprise to many who had no idea that the West Coast had the herds Capable of giving mch good results, and it* would no doubt prove a very good advertisement or farming lands on tlie Const.
