WEST COAST RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union was held last evening at Greymouth. Referees’ reports were read and received. T. Mclntosh, referee of the StarExcelsior match at Victoria Park, reported that he had occasion in the second spell to order R .King, of the Excelsior team, to leave. tlie field for continually disputing his decisions. H tf had been warned twice previously, but had not taken any notice. It was decided to place King on imo caution list. /•
Accounts totalling £l3 Os 6d were passed for payment. The Hokitika Sub-Union wrote requesting the Union to fix a deltmu date for the Sub-Union’s seven-a-side tournament at Hokitika. The letiei stated that it was desirable to play the tourney as early as possible, before interest in the game began to wane. ' The Chairman said that it was the Sub-Union’s duty to fix the date, not the Union’s. The Union had alreadyheld its tourney, and the only aspect of the matter which concerned the Union was whether they were prepared to suspend their fixtures for tin day of the tournament. The date previously suggested by the Sub-Union was not suitable as the Union couul not see its way clear to suspend fixtures on that date. Mr Ryan was of opinion: that the Sub-Union should hold the matte* over for a few weeks. The senior fixtures could not possibly be Suspended until tlie competition was practically settled. Mr Riothwell suggested that- the tourney be held on the date of the Excelsior-Rival match at Hokitika on Saturday week. That fixture c uld be player later if it would have any bearing on the result of the competition. The Chairman said that the Union received only one entry from the SubUnion for the last seven-a-side tournament at Greymouth, and it was not necessary that Grey Clubs should nominate for the Sub-Union’s tourney. He considered that the Sub-Union shook, be notified that it was for them to fix the date and suggesting the date of the Rival-Excelsior game at Hokitika.
Mr Ryan thought it should be stated that if the tourney were held over Until the end of the competition, there would be in all probability good entries from Greymouth. It was therefore decided to write the Sub-Union pointing out that tlie fixation of the date of tlie tourney was the duty of the Sub-Union, suggesting the date of the Rivals-Excei-sior game at Hokitika, but stating further that if the tourney were held at the end. of the senior competition, there would probably be good entries from Greymouth clubs. Tlie Blaketown Club applied for the readmission of one player to the cod", and it was decided to forward the application to the New Zealand Union with a favourable recommendation. It was stated that this player had played on Saturday in the United'Blaketown match. After discussion it was resolved to cancel Blaketown’s win and award the game to United. The Chairman stated that the Buller Rugby Union were prepared to play tlie return match on any date suitable to the West Coast Union, provided it did not clash with Seddon Shield matches. It was decided to hold the matter of the return match over til! a later date. Kumara were declared winners ol the junior competition, and United ol tjie third grade competition, and it was decided to commence two run no competitions in both grades next Saturday. Tlie fallowing fixtures were arranged for Saturday next, duly 18: Senior:—United v. Excelsiors, at Victoria Park, A Ground, 3 p.m. (Mr W. , Williams); Rivals v. Stars at Hokitika, 3 p.m.; Cobden v. Blaketown at Cobden, 3 p.m. (Mr W. McLaughlin).
