GOLDMINING AWARD

'WAGES DEDUCED

REEFTON AFFECTED. Reductions in wages in the Xew Big River mine and in the Alexander mine are contained in the award which has been made by the Arbitration Court in the dispute between the gold mining companies in the Rcefton district and the Inan'gahua Gold and Coal Mine Union. The. reductions are one shilling a day for certain classes of workers in the .Alexander mine and sixpence a day for certain workers in the' Few Big River mine. All wages are, in addition, subject to a 10 per cent. cut. An alteration has also been made to the clauses governing the hours of work. The minimum daily rates of wages set out in the award are as follows : Underground.-t-Miners working with machines in rises and winzes 16s 6d, all other miners 16s, truckers 15s, chambermen 16s, bracemen 16s, mullockers and shovellers 15s, timbermen and repairers 16s, repairers in shafts and rises 17s, winchmen requiring winding drivers’ certificates 16s 6d, winchmen Hot requiring certificates ilss 6d, pipefitters and plate layers 16s. Surface,—Winding-engine drivers 17s 6cl, winding-engine drivers requiring both first-class stationary and winders' certificates 19s Bd, stationary-engine drivers where first-class certificate is required 16s 6d, stationary-engine drivers where first-class certificate is not required 15s 6d, general blacksmiths 18s 4d, strikers 14s 6d, tool-sharpeners 17s, carpenters 17s 6d, mill-wrights 17s 6d, timber-framers 1/s 6d, truckers on surface 15s, aerial brakesmen l'ss, other aerial men 15s, amalgamators 16s, vacner and other concentrating men 14s 6d, stone-breaker men 14s 6d, battery- ? feeders 14s' 6d, cyanide-men handling p solution 15s, cyanide-men not handling s solution 14s 6d, firemen 15s, labourers, g? pick-and-shovel 15s, other labourers 14s g 6d, winchmen 15s.- S SPECIAL MINES. 1 The clauses relating to special mines read as follows : The rates for workers g in the New Big River Mine shall be jp Is 6d higher than the rates above S specified, provided that work shall not (1 be performed below No. 3 level. The only other alteration to the existing award is the inclusion of a clause providing for a 10 per cent, cut in accordance with the General Order made by the Court on May 29 last. The award will continue in force until July 20, 1932. _____
