•MONDAY, JULY 13. /The Board met at 8 p.m. Present: MeSsrs J, J. Breeze ({Chairman), G. Davidson, A. R. Elcock, E. .-W. Heenan, R. Meharry, W. Jeffries, T. W. Duff, iW. ''Evenden, M. Keenan and H. Wells. / The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. •MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The .Chairman referred in feeling.terms to the death of Mrs' R. J. Seddon and moved that the Board place on record its deep sense of the loss sustained by the death of Mrs Seddon, and that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to the members of the family. Carried in silence, members standing.
•IN'WARD CORRESPONDENCE.. From Secretary, supplying report in receipts and expenditure for the quarter. —Received. From Director General of Health, Wei-, lington, replying to the Board’s resolution that an unnecessary number of inspectors were being sent through the Dominion on inspection work in connection with public hospitals, and pointing out that the ihspectional staff of the department insofar as hospitals are concerned k a limited One ahd all the inspecting officers have duties to perform apart from visits to: institutions. Further pointing out us tlw resolution arose out of Dr Moor’s visit that this was the first time in at least ten years that
the house managers' section of the Westland Hospital has been inspected.—Received. Mr Jeffries said the letter bore out the/Board’s contention, as it was
•shown that the officer was reporting for, the first time in. ten; years -and thanks to the care of Mr Davidson, Chairman of,the 'House Committee, the Board did not want another inspection for the next ten years. 'From R. Cox, Unemployment Officer, an regard to limit of expenditure.—Received. ,'/> . •From Timber Workers’ Union <F. Turley Secretary) notifying it.’had been decided to discontinue the’agreement for treatment of union members at the hospital at June 30th, owing'to the present stringent financial/ position.—Received. The Secretary’stated the union members owed, the Board at -30th June.£6s3 Tss, of which the" Union had to pay' 40 per cent.,, approximately £260. : * • Mr Jeffries said this decision would tend to cripple the finances of the Board. He .thought the position was very nnfair. Mr ..Turley when’ he met fthe Board a month ago had stated the payments would he' made and, now they (found that they were not . going to pay the amounts due at. present at any rate. . •.■■■•• i . ■•• .•_ Mr Duff' said the, letter, was very indefinite. Mr Turley' knew the Board Would not make a fresh agreement un-le.-,a they paid the overdue money for treatment. A list had been supplied of TJnion who were supposed to /have paid their ..dues, but 1 the Board had not got the mbney. Mr Davidson ; said the Board should get a statement from the Union showingwho ' were financial members. After further discussion, Mr Duff moved that Mr Turley be asked for a definite statement of those men who had contributed to the hospital ’levy and what had become of those /contributions. Seconded by Mr Wells and ' carried. • It was further resolved to give public notice that, the agreement with the Timber Workers’ 'Union had. .begin terminated as from;:July Ist and that/current rates would be charged members of the- Union for maintenance .an Westland Hospital. ' ' TENDERS. : Tenders for the supply of bread were /dealt with by the Finance Committee aiid .the tender of T. Movnihan .was accepted at 2Jd less 2-J- percent. A. Spence offered on the same terms, a draw resulting in favor of Mr Moynihan. Other tenders were—Jß, Eastgate 2Jd and C. Pfahlert 2|d, tH. Preston 3^d.

The Treasurer reported receipts £6lO 6L73 4d, payments £B6B 9s 2d, debit baiance £5Bl 9s lOd. Accounts amounting ,to £2OB 6s 8d \rere passed for payment. ? From Medical' Superintendent, Westland Hospital, reporting for ’June. On June j there wcjre 33 . patients in
hospital. Admitted during June totalled 0.6 males, 14 females ; total treated 63. Discharged cured 16 males, 7 females, relieved 4 males, 2 females. Died 1 male, 1 female. Total discharged 21 males 10 females—3l. In hospital 30th June 17 males 15 females—32. In hospital for two months 8 males, 4 females/'total 12. Received.
VISITING HOURS
Mr Davidson presented a revised list for visiting hours at the hospital and moved that it be agreed to. This was seconded by Mr Duff and after discussion it was agreed to. The Chairman said, the altered hours vould be publ.shed for general information and these appear in another column.
ANNUAL BALL,
It was resolved to call a meeting of lady supporters prepared 'to assist in carrying out the annual benefit ball, the meeting'to be held on Wednesday week at 7 p.m.; when the date of the ball would be fixed. The Board rose at 9.15 p.m.
