(Received this day at 0.2.', a.m) LAXCASHI.R'E, July 13. New Zealand cricketers continued against 'Lancashire in fine weather. 'Jhe wicket was somewhat dead as a result of yesterday’s rain. Lowry declared and • Hallows and 'Horrocks opened attractively. Lancashire surpassed New Zealand’s batting effort of Saturday and gaoled a leau with the loss of seven wickets. The ■County batting was consistently at'rt tractive. -Hallows and Horrocks after . a steady start scored brightly. Hallows was particularly aggressive, powerful straight driving being a feature of his play. He hit a six through \a pavil’on window, Horrocks is a West Australian, and this is his first appearance for the County, ’He showed excellent off shots, but wa3 twice beaten badly by Page before he was caught in the slips off a mishit, when attempting to force Cromb's away swinger. 1 for 124. Hallows gave his only chance after the century. Previously a confident appeal for a catch behind was disallowed. He finally threw discretion to the winds and 1 was well caught by Vivian in the outfield, after 173 minutes play. He hit fifteen fours and one six, ■ ■ i Excellent catches dismissed Iddon and A. Tyldesley, and Hopwood was brilliantly stumped on the leg side. ‘ All batted with confidence. The finest batting of rthe innings was provided by Paynter, a left hander. He flogged the tired bowling with sparkling shots and hit a century in il€2 minutes and included two ■sixes and twelve fours. He was 'brilliantly caught at the boundary. The New Zealand bowlers had an un•enviable task on a perfect batting wicket. The attack lacked sting. Vivian and Talbot bowled well a her tea. The fielding was first class.
