RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd,) MONDAY, JULY 13th. The 2YA series of “Musical Portraits 1 ' will be continued this evening with a presentation of Russian Music. The Chamber Music Trio, comprising Madame Evelyn de Mauny (piano), Mr Leon de Mauny (violin) and Mr Claude Tanner ('cello), will perform. The OrchesCrina will play “In the Silence of the Night’’ by Rachmaninoff and Moszkowski’s popular “Serenade” and ‘■'From Foreign Parts.” Madame Dorothy Cronin, PiTiC.L. (soprano), well known to IYA lis teners, will make her first appeai-ance at 2YA. She will sing “Nobil Signor” ((from “Les Huguenots”), "The Scythe ■Song” by 'Hamilton Barty and songs by Mallinson, Dunhill and Bishop. Contralto numbers will be sung by Miss 'Evelyn Robinson and Mr Val Jones’s fine baritone voice will be heard in ballads and a solo from “Faust.”
The New Brighton Municipal Band, under Mr J. Nuttail, will provide a programme of a varied and popular nature at 3YA. Assisting vocalists will be Airs Sen. Jowett (mezzo-contralto), Mr •Adam S. Mitchell (tenor), Mr Percy Caithness .oaritone) and Mr Denys Cow (humorous recite).
From 4YA at 7.40 p.m. a talk on
“The early history of Otago” will be given by Mr John Bowie. Dr Merrington, Principal of Knox College, will be the speaker for 4YA’s International Programme this evening. His subject will be “The International Body.” Silent day at IYA.
TUESDAY, JULY 14th. _ 1 The speaker on the International Programme at IYA this evening will be Mr Frank Leonard, who is the chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Auckland Rotary Club. He is speaking on the subject; ‘ The International Mind.” The Ariel Singers will supply the major portion of the vocal items on the evening’s programme from 2YA. This talented combination is well known to listeners, and should excel themselves in a specially selected programme of solos, duets and quartettes. A feature of the programme will be Mrs H. G. Reeves's Banjo Band, playing popular airs. The Salon Orchestra will also play bright music.” A saxophone solo by Mr S. Barrett will have orchestral accompani-
ment. The St. Kilda Band, under Mr James Dixon, will give a programme from 4YA. The vocalists will be The Harmonists, whose singing of concerted numbers will be a most enjoyable feature of the evening's entertainment. As solos, Miss Mae Mathespn [soprano) wijj sjng “Allbi't Laurie,” .Miss M. Green will sing ”Eriskay Love Lilt” and Mr C. S. Hawes will sing another old favourite, “On the Roan ro Mandalay.” Miss Eva Judd will play two violin solos. A cornet polka, “Red--cap,” will be contributed by Mr Vic. Aldridge and the band. Silent day at 3YA.
