INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Wm. Wilson, agent for F. A. Thompson, submitting plan of subdivisions of Lot 1, Section 900 and Section 901, and asking for approval of subdivision;—Received and approved. , From Wm. Council decided to take no further action. at present. From Hokitika ,School Committee renewing application for grant for dental clinic, to be made at .a,later date.— Received.- ’ Armstrong, who is Chairman of the Committee, explained the position. He said • the statement , made by Mr Searle at the . County; Council meeting was entirely incorrect. The Kanieri, Anburn, Hum--phreys schools and Catholic schools at Hokitika Kanieri -and Rimu • received . treatment, while several ohildren also came from Hanihori district and received treatment. The clinic was now well established and was doing good work, j. There was' a general discussion, the opinion being that parents of the children receiving treatment should pay for same. It was decided to take no action at present.
REPORTS. . The' Treasurer reported receipts £ICI9 Os 7d expenditure £822 l'ls sd; debit balance £B6l 16s 4d.—Received.
Accounts amounting to' £770 17s lid we ,- o passed for payment, ' It was resolved: to hold a special meeting at noon on the 22nd. to strike the annual rates.
FOREMAN’S REP OORT. 1 fceg to . report the following works were carried out during the month.— Asphalting was carried out on Weld Street on' the west side of the railway connecting with the tar sealed portion of the street, and tar. sealed, also along Sewell Street between the clock tower and the Rost 'Office, where the Sewell Street *?rain was ,Pstfsin,f|the width ot six to eight' feet; The jullction of Weld and Bealey Streets were tar sealed, also the junction/of .Fitzherbtrt and Stafford Streets sealed', The corner of Revell and 'Camp Streets was repaired with concrete and tar seiled, and the corner of Hampden and Revell .Streets sealed.
Six extra, concrete pipes (2ft 3in) were put in the'East Town Belt drain, four at the Stafford Street crossing and two at the .'Hampden Street crossing, one nine inch earthenware pipe and down pipe were put in at the corner ot Cass Square connecting into Boaley Street drain. \ ’
A water connection was pvtt in at T. Staines’, residence in Sale Street, and the If inch pipe repaired in Weld 'Street. Several 'Fire-Plugs were raised in various parts and washers replaced where neces-
sary. The Reservoir was run out and cleaned on the 6th and repairs to the pipe line was carried out on the Lake road and Constitution Flat, and several leaks repaired about town. The depth of.water averaging sft lOin. Mr Weiblitz was engaged with returned soldiers making 18in concrete pipes up to the 13th, the total number made being 206. The relief workers have been engaged in cleaning drains, footpaths, and cutting growth from the s:des of the streets, and levelling parts. Drains weie cut on the Abattoir’s paddock and spoil levelled, and the reserves cleaned up. The extra horse and dray Has been very useful removing spoil and assisting on the streets. -.-Received.
ABATTOIR REPORT. From Manager of Abattoirs, reporting there were slaughtered during the month of June.—3B cows, .10 heifers, 48 bullocks, 324 sheep, 25 lambs, 12 pigs, 35 calves.
Condemned 1 cow and 1 bullock. Fees for period £7l 6 0 (same period last year, £64 9s).—Received. In connection with the Main Highways proposed regulations, it was resolved to object to the regulation dealing with classification of roads and the election of signs at each crossing. It was resolved that tenders be invited for-the offal contract.
The Town Clerk reported that some person had slashed the bicycle tyies of both i wheels of the Inspector’s machine, a pure case of vandalism. It was stated th<* matter had been put in the hands of the police. The Mayor moved if the eight petitioners ate prepared to pay £1 each on their frontage to Hampden Street the Council would be prepared to p'pe the drain in front of their premises. The Council rose at 8.30 p.m.
