LONDON, July 10
Howard League Penal Reform is financing an important appeal to the Privy Council to decide whether convicts escaping from Devils Island to British territory should be allowed their liberty or sent back. The immediate question concerns a convict who reached Trinidad and was ordered by Trinidad Supreme Court to be surrendered to France. The case will test- the whole question of a Sanctuary of British soil, and the interpretation of the Anglo-French Extrndietion Treaty. A big legal struggle is anticipated.

UNIVERSITY APPOINMENT LONDON, July 10. Doctor Murray Brennan. formerly Professor at Otago University, has oeen appointed to the Chair of Pathology at Edinburgh University.
