The intensely human story involves the struggle of an underworld character to resume his place in decent society. Though the mistake of a plastic surgeon who rebuilds his face after it has been mangled in battle, Barrolles, tli© criminal,, is made to appear exactly like Sir John Lasher, English gentleman. At first he is to be accepted by society without having to pay for hits former .crimes. But his sense of honour prevents him from keeping up the pose when he finds the wife of the man he is representing to he, loves him and he loves her. That is the dramatic climax.
