THE HOUSE.

WELLINGTON, July 8. The House of Representatives resumed to-day at &.30 p.m.
In answer to a question by Mr Coates as to whether there was any truth in a statement that there would be no rilore increments this year in the' public service salaries, particularly railways, the Prime Minister said the matter had not been considered as yet by the Government.
The main business before the House was a discussion on the second reading of the Unemployment Amendment Bill in the afternoon.
Mr Forbes moved for urgency for the measure which was granted, and it is proposed the Bill be put through the Committee' stages to-morrow.
Replying to questions by Mr Do wine Stewart, Mr Forbes stated the money raised under the v now Bill would he used to meet the requirements of people out of work, and relieve their conditions. A difficulty had been met concerning the policy in regard to unemployed women, but with the money raised under the new Bill, their position would he greatly improved. The new Board would be asked to carry out more a. production policy than in the past and he specially requested to devote more attention to placing men in, country districts. Money from tliq Consolidated Fund to subsidise the unemployment levy would be raised in the ordinary way. The debate was continued till 12.5 a,.m. when the Bill was read a second time.
During the evening the Transport Licensing Bill, providing for the licensing of motor passenger services, was introduced by Governor-General's message and read a first time.
