THOUGHTS OF THE TIMES.
practical disarmament. The position has now been reached that Great Britain can proceed no further with disarmaments until the other Powers give & more’ concrete proof of their willingness to follow her than is contained in expressions of adherence' to even the most inviolable of treaties. They have advertised their good intentions, and these are scarcely open to question, but the time has come for good deeds. In demonstrating what Great Britain has done, Air Mao Donald has, in effect, issued a challenge to the Powers to show that they are prepared to support her. It is to he hoped that the challenge will not be disregarded. The World Disarmament Conference', which is to be held early next year, can be successful only insofar as the nations agreed to limit their expenditure on the panoply of war, and it is as well that they should approach it with a courageous example Jto inspire them to adopt the policy that will he expected of them. —Northern Paper.
