THE NEW ZEALAND TOUR. NOTTS 138 FOR 3. croub\s fine Bomnc. (Special to Press Association). NOTTINGHAM, .July 4. Rain lifter lunch stopped play in the e 'v Zealand versus .Nottinghamshire match. The New Zealanders omitted from their team 'Merritt, Mills and Kerr. The 'Nottinghamshire team are : Carr, Gunn (2), Ketton, Walker, Hardstaff, Staples (2), Uarratt, Voce and Wheat. -Mills is receiving treatment for a slight leg injury.
Larwood's leg still prevents him from playing. Lowry lost Hie toss, and George 'Gunn and Ketton opened for Notts to the bowling of Cromb and Math-son on a perfect wicket. A feature of the morning's play was a duel between Cromb and the veteran Gunn. Cromb struck form early. Gunn concentrated on keeping him out, and allowing runs to come from the other end. At one stage Cromb had bowled six successive maiden overs, The value of Gunn's policy was proved when Cromb dismissed, Ketton and 'Walker,' who had scored almost entirely off Matheson and Blunt. 'Carr was magnificently caught by iMatheson off a full-bowled straight drive.
Cromb bowled unchanged for two hours before lunch,, sending down 22 overs for 34 runs, and he bowled four overs after lunch. Gunn gave a masterly exhibition of stroke playing, accurate timing and perfect placing. Rain interrupted the play forty minutes after lunch, and then set in for the afternoon. The wicket was covered. The attendance was ten thousand. •Scores:— XOTTINGiHAM. —First Innings.’ George Gunn (not out) 62 Ketton c Blunt b Cromb 21 Walker l.b.w. b Cromb ... 21 Carr c and b .Matheson 3 Staples (not out) ... ... 13. •Extras 13
